Why I choose the Civil Rights Pilgrimage?

I wasn’t planning for a spring break trip. However, the Civil Rights Pilgrimage seemed like an interesting trip and economical. I was highly recommended to attend the trip by a friend because she had a great experience. Moreover, my sister mentioned how she didn’t have the opportunity to go on the Civil Rights Pilgrimage.

I want to achieve a better understanding of the Civil Rights Movement and share what I have learned with others. This trip will allow me to be in places were the Civil Rights Movement took place and the journey. I will be able to see and stand where history was made. Since the group of students will be diverse, we will all have different viewpoints. It will help grow as an individual by being more open minded and educated.

Former Trip Participant Doing Great Things

LaVontae Brooks, who went on the trip last year just sent me this picture. He is with Congressman John Lewis, who we learn quite a bit about on the trip. He wanted me to see the photo because Congressman Lewis signed LaVontae's book that he bought on the trip last year. LaVontae is currently in Washington D.C. working for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

So proud of you LaVontae!!
