Welcome to the experience....................
After sleeping very uncomfortably on the bus for several hours we finally made it to HOTLANTA!(Atlanta). To my surprise it was Cold Atlanta and the weather was not on our side. Our first stop of the Civil Rights Pilgrimage was Ebenezer Baptist church in Atlanta, Georgia also known as America's "Freedom Church" . This church is the home church of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his family. The church is celebrating its 124th Year Anniversary. As the pastor stated in his sermon, it was not the legacy of the church building that they were celebrating, it was the people. It was the hardworking and faithful people who made the church what it is today! Gods' church! (Come on somebody!!) It was a privilege seeing the members of the church who lived and fought during the era of Civil Rights movement. Next Sunday April 4th marks the 42nd year Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's death. I was honored to stand on the grounds where Dr. King and Sister Coretta Scott King were buried. I'm reminded everyday that I'm living the dream that Dr. King once had.
We also had a special member in the audience who blessed us with an A &B selection. You all may know her as thee Jennifer Holiday; one of the original actresses from the Broadway Dreamgirls.
For the rest of the day, we explored Atlanta. The weather deferred many our dream from being fulfilled; meaning we were too lazy to explore Atlanta because of the rain. Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to visit Dr. Kings home. More pics of the ATL experience coming soon...........Stay tuned!
